Army Wins Gold Brandon Hall Excellence in Learning Award

Brandon Hall Gold Excellence in Learning 2010

Alexandria, VA, November 15, 2010 – On November 4th, the U.S. Army Combat Readiness/Safety Center (USACR/SC), QinetiQ North America, and Carney, Inc won a coveted gold Brandon Hall Excellence in Learning Award in the custom content category for its Composite Risk Management (CRM) Signal Branch Module web-based training module. The courseware was judged on navigation, content presentation, use of media, interactivity, engagement, support of objectives, and overall presentation.

“Signal sets a high standard for the quality of performance solutions being developed for our soldiers”, said John Carney, President and CEO of Carney, Inc. “All our work at Carney is on behalf of our clients, and it is an honor for us to be part of their success.”

Composite Risk Management (CRM) is the Army’s decision-making process for identifying hazards and controlling risks across the full spectrum of Army missions and activities. Produced by Carney, Inc., The Signal module is one of a series of performance-based, application-level courses that immerses Soldiers in realistic off-duty and branch-specific mission environments that approach simulation fidelity.

Through highly interactive, non-linear, and experiential learning activities, the courseware challenges Soldiers to apply the CRM process to the types of hazards most relevant to their unit missions, systems, and current operating environments in Afghanistan and Iraq. Soldiers identify and assess hazards, develop and implement controls, and then submit their work to the appropriate level of command to obtain a risk decision – just as they would in the field. Based on the soundness of their risk planning, Soldiers are presented with realistic outcomes to the mission.

Now in its 16th year, the Brandon Hall Excellence in Learning Awards showcases exceptional work in the use of learning technology. Brandon Hall Research, one of the leading research firms in training and development, presents the awards annually.    “These winning entries are very impressive,” said Brandon Hall, Ph.D., chairman of the Awards program. “We are thrilled to recognize innovative learning of such high quality.” A total of 214 entries across 16 categories were evaluated by a panel of veteran, independent senior judges.
